Earth Island Institute, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides fiscal sponsorship, administrative services, technical assistance, and outreach to more than thirty environmental campaigns and programs. In turn, those projects help to support Earth Island Institute with a standard nine percent fee on revenue (e.g., grants, donations, licensing). This model is a cost-effective and efficient alternative to dozens of nonprofits separately incorporating and duplicating basic administrative functions. Earth Island's projects function with programmatic autonomy and are responsible for raising their own funds while benefiting from the network's synergetic exchange of experiences, ideas, and energy.
In addition, through promotion and membership development, EII is able to assist projects with outreach and to offer the general public avenues for citizen activism. The result is a powerful community of members, volunteers, and staff working toward a sustainable future.
(optional addition: Federal funding is subject to a fifteen percent fiscal sponsorship fee.)

| What directors of Earth Island sponsored projects are saying about Earth Island Institute... |
"Without Earth Island Institute, my project wouldn't exist
nor would it have grown into a free-standing organization."
- Jamie Sayen
Northern Appalachian Restoration Project
"Earth Island Institute's Project Support Program has been critical to the rapid growth and success of Bay Area Wilderness Training (BAWT). In just 2.5 years we have been able to grow our project from a "good idea" and a couple of volunteers to a well developed program that now reaches over 75 teachers and 500 youth annually. The professional accounting services have saved us innumerable hours, and allowed us to focus on program quality at a time when proving our work to the community was crucial. It must also be mentioned that the support services have steadily added quality program pieces, such as valuable workshops that are relevant to our work as small projects in the midst of growth and change."
- Kyle Macdonald
Executive Director, Bay Area Wilderness Training
"Earth Island Institute has provided a valuable service to the Estuary Action Challenge project, for the past five years. This support has helped us to expand our programs every year, increase our budget, diversify our funding sources and improve our marketing strategies. Earth Island has provided high quality professional development experiences, as well as crucial day to day services, such as accounting and payroll. It is a great benefit for our grassroots project to be a part of a large, well known and well respected organization, such as Earth Island Institute."
- Mandi Billinge
Executive Director, Estuary Action Challenge
